The main objectives of this WP are to create the mechanisms that control the geometrical configuration of the vocal tract, which is to be used as input for the finite element modeling in WP5; and of the laryngeal posturing, as input to WP2. This consists of the four tasks outlined in Description of work below. First, an articulatory model will be designed that both positions and tensions the vocal folds and maps the articulatory degrees of freedom for static vocal tract deformations to geometric control parameters (task T7.1). Second, the temporal variation of these geometric control parameters should be controllable in order to create dynamically varying shapes. This includes the optional facility of setting the control parameters through simulated neural signals to motor commands (T7.2). Third, a phonetic interface will be created to allow for explorations of the model at a higher level of abstraction (T7.3). Fourth, an interface will be defined and implemented for remote control of the system (T7.4).
